Places on this Skoot

  • Capilano Suspension Bridge

    3735 Capilano Road , North Vancouver, BC : (604) 985-7474

Breathe in the cedar-scented rainforest air as you make your way across Vancouver's famous landmark, the Capilano Suspension Bridge, just minutes from the bustle of downtown. The bridge itself was originally made of hemp in 1889 and is now made of reinforced steel, though for a real thrill, it still sways -- especially when kids jump on it in front of you! Across the bridge, enjoy Treetops Adventure, seven suspension bridges through the evergreens that take you up 100 feet above the forest floor, not unlike an Ewok village right out of Star Wars. Guided nature tours, the Kids' Rainforest Explorer program and the Living Forest exhibit enhance this unique rainforest encounter -- and be sure to hit any of the several fun gift shops on your way out.

  • Vancouver Aquarium

    845 Avison Way , Vancouver, BC : (604) 659-3474

The Vancouver Aquarium, while small, has beautiful and plentiful exhibits with marine life from all over the world, including an entire exhibit on local wildlife. Daily presentations include the sea otter feeding, Birds of Prey in flight, the Beluga whale training, and of course the popular dolphin show -- and be sure to get in line early for a good spot! Kids will love up-close encounters like Amazon Critter Corner, Snakes in Cold Blood, and the Touch Pools. A new exhibit, “Frogs Forever?” examines the real possibility of amphibian extinction in our lifetimes.

  • Yaletown

Hamilton St , Vancouver, British Columbia

Vancouver’s Yaletown has undergone a revival, emerging as downtown’s trendiest neighborhood for hip urban professionals. It’s a place to stroll, shop, see and be seen, perfect for a day’s exploration. Originally built as a railyard in the 19th century, the red brick buildings retain their historical charm, although the warehouses have become lofts and loading docks are now martini bars. Countless restaurants, boutiques, and galleries line the streets in the seven-block area. Shop for home décor or one-of-a-kind fashions, sample sushi and gourmet foods, or admire abstract art. Sidewalk cafés provide lattes and ringside seats to observe the parade of pretty people.

  • Vancouver Science World

    1455 Quebec St , Vancouver, BC : (604) 443-7443

The Telus World of Science, formerly known as Science World, teems with interactive exhibits that introduce children and their adult companions to the wonderful world of -- well, science. Hands-on displays like an infrared camera, a beehive, and a build-your-own-invention area teach about light, sound, physics, biology, music and natural history. The second floor theater shows educational films such as Walking With Dinosaurs and Water Under Fire. Frequent demonstrations provide whizzes and bangs for crowds of enthusiastic, rambunctious youngsters. If you prefer the company of your own inner child, check out adults-only night.
