Stacks of the former president's favorite novels and documents about his time in office are all part of the Lyndon B. Johnson Library and Museum. Keeping a historical record of our presidents is an indication of how we revere our leaders as celebrities. The seven-eighths scale model of the Oval Office is interesting, as is the Model T given to Johnson by Henry Ford. The stunning grounds of the Capitol only highlight the beauty and majesty of the iconic building. When it was finished in 1888 it was the seventh-largest building in the world, and with its breathtaking dome, it is a beautiful example of Renaissance Revival architecture. A lot has changed since then, but Austin has maintained its place in the skyline by banning any new building from obscuring it. Points of interest include the rotunda floor, depicting the "Republic of Texas," and a controversial display of the Ten Commandments.

The Lady Bird Lake Hike and Bike Trail has more than 50 miles of surfaced, scenic paths that run alongside natural greenbelts such as the Lady Bird Lake Trail.
