Texas is a big state, so it calls for a big cultural and entertainment center. Fair Park, located just east of downtown Dallas, is home to a variety of popular museums and event spaces such as the Music Hall, Cotton Bowl Stadium, Smirnoff Music Centre, Band Shell and more, with events ranging from music festival at the Superpages.com Center to the Texas State Fair. A green oasis in the midst of Dallas, White Rock Lake offers a variety of events and outdoor activities. There’s a 9.3 mile hiking and biking trail, scenic picnic areas, fishing piers, and bird watching areas designated by the Audubon Society. Not only is it a great place to exercise, and a lovely vantage point to watch the skyscrapers’ lights come on at sunset, it's also a fun spot for an afternoon picnic, a barbeque, a Frisbee game, or kite flying. If you’re more of a night owl, wait until midnight (safely!) and try to spot the Lady of White Rock Lake, Dallas’s version of the Vanishing Hitchhiker.

The Katy Trail, a 3.5-mile tree-lined, paved trail, runs from the American Airlines Center almost to the SMU campus. People can be found happily biking, pushing strollers or walking their dogs every sunny day of the week. The running track is rubberized and extra cushiony, so you can get your exercise without destroying your joints. The annual Katy 5K Run helps raise funds for the trail, as well as funding off-duty Dallas Police patrols that ensure the trail's safety.
